Arianna’s Story

Arianna was a bright and dedicated young woman who faced immense challenges with mental illness for eight years. Diagnosed initially with depression and anxiety, she received therapy and medication to manage these conditions. However, her struggle intensified when she was later diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Despite the severity of her condition and numerous hospitalizations, Arianna remained resilient.

Her academic achievements were remarkable; she graduated seventh in her class and homeschooled herself during her junior and senior years of high school. Though she aspired to attend an Ivy League college, she chose to stay local, which allowed her to manage her mental health more effectively by being close to home.

Arianna was passionate about helping others, often being a source of support for her friends during their times of crisis. She pursued a degree in psychology, driven by her personal experiences and her desire to understand and assist others struggling with similar issues. Her empathy and dedication to her studies were evident to all who knew her.

In 2021, Arianna sought intensive treatment for her anxiety and depression, which included hospital stays and virtual therapy sessions. Unfortunately, her experiences in the psychiatric hospital were traumatic, exacerbating her anxiety and leading to further decline in her mental health. Despite undergoing various treatment programs, including those aimed at addressing a perceived eating disorder, her condition did not improve.

Arianna's battle with mental illness culminated in her tragic decision to take her own life at the age of 22. Her death left a profound impact on her family and friends, highlighting the urgent need for better mental health care and support systems.

In her honor, The ARI Foundation was established. This foundation aims to improve post-discharge care plans for psychiatric patients, address abusive practices during hospital stays, and provide resources for caregivers. The Foundation also advocates for changes in mental health care laws and will maintain an updated directory of therapists and psychiatrists accepting new patients.

Arianna's legacy lives on through the Foundation's efforts to create a more compassionate and effective mental health care system. Her story is a poignant reminder of the importance of comprehensive support for individuals battling mental illness and their families.
