1 in 5 people in the United States live with a mental illness

The ARI Foundation is dedicated to improving mental health. Mental illnesses are among the most common health conditions in the United States, with more than 1 in 5 US adults living with a mental illness. Similarly, over 1 in 5 youths (ages 13-18) either currently or at some point during their life, have had a seriously debilitating mental illness. Additionally, about 1 in 25 U.S. adults lives with a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
